Happy Mail

Have you ever sent a hug in the mail?

We have many family and friends who live far away.
Sometimes you just need to send a hug.
Yesterday we did.

Wouldn't four colorful hugs in your mailbox make your day?

Trace your child's hands on their favorite color paper.
Cut them out.
Add a sweet little note.
Measure their "hugspan" with some fun ribbon.
Staple the ribbon to the paper hands.
You've just made a hug.

We had so much fun making some happy mail yesterday.
I miss getting happy mail...now that it's just easier to email or text.

I really miss some of my favorite magazines filling the mailbox too...so many are out of publication now...Cottage Living, Simple Scrapbooks, and Home Companion.
As a young mom, a magazine was like a much needed vacation.

Any ideas for happy mail or new magazines?
I could use some new ideas!
Julie

  1. What a lovely idea - I've never heard of this before. It's definitely something I'll do with my kids. My brother lives in Spain but is a yachtsman so is currently sailing around The Far East and Middle East back to Spain and his girlfriend and her little boy are coming to visit us next week. When little Renzo goes back to Spain it will be lovely to have hugs in the post from his Welsh 'cousins'. Especially as he doesn't speak much English - no words needed with these.
Thanks so much for the idea!

  4. What a wonderful idea. Now that we live near the coast we don't get to see family as much. I love the idea of putting hugs in the mail. A little idea that I've used before is getting my children to draw a picture of a family member and then I ask them a number of questions in which I write the answers (I write it like a story) next to the picture. As my kids are young, it is always very funny how they view the world.

Some questions to get you started:

    How old is the person?
What do you love about them?
    What do they do?
What do they eat and drink?
    Where do they live?
    What do they look like?

The younger they are, the funnier this activity gets!

  7. Fantastic idea. I have a feeling that many grandmas and grandpas may get these in the mail for upcoming holidays. I know mine will!
And magazines--there's still BH&G and Real Simple. But they're not the same, I know.

  9. Oh my dear sweet friend!!! You have made my night. I now know EXACTLY what to make for Lola upon my next visit. I went to see her this afternoon and was slightly bummed I could not think of something to bring her. (I always try to bring something to cheer her day.)

Tomorrow...I will bring Thurgood's hug! (He can only come IF we can sneak him in).

Thank you so much for your inspiration...you amaze me.

    Cheers~

Dear JULIE girl! you are genius!!! You just gave me a great idea as to what to do with the calico fabric. I will make something from the calico and I will do just that. Then I will have to post who inspired me to do this calico piece :)

  12. That is a great idea! You could join in on Deborah at Fairfield House's new project. I did a post about it on my blog. She is asking for postcards, one from each state. You can also exchange postcards with others in the project.

I also won a copy of Romantic Homes. I got it yesterday and am still drooling!

I adored The Help! I read it a month ago and I still think of it often and I still think about the characters as if they are really living! I know that will be one I read again! Glad you liked this one, I can't wait to really get into it!

  16. Hi
I just came across your blog. An amazing magazine for young families is Family Fun. Terrific for crafts and ideas for all the holidays. Extremely reasonable as well...less than $12 per year, I think. Enjoy!
