Note to Self on Day 5 of Summer Vacation

Keep staying present.
Keep working out and doing morning routines before the kids are up.
Keep those morning lists coming for the kids.
Make sure they do their jobs before running off to play.
Eat healthy.
Don't grab cookies when they tick you off.
Take tons of pics and have the kids practice writing by journaling.
Find snippets of sanity...take a walk, read a book or magazine, call a friend, enter blogland.
The house will not be as neat as you'd like.
It's ok.
Have fun.
Remember how far you've come...
you no longer have to chase toddlers on land or in water.
And that is a good thing.
You will be exhausted at the end of the day.
Go to bed.
Get ready for another day.........

pic at the Museum of Science and Industry....yes I'm wearing heals, and yes, Carl is that much taller than me. Time for stilts! I was the crazy mom heading downtown (Chicago) on the day of the Blackhawks parade. Missed two overcrowded trains...and drove! :)

  1. You are so right...I have been slacking on the morning routines and then mad at them and myself later. Thanks for the pep talk!

  2. Great words of wisdom!
Morning routines alone are so important to me
    too!
And so is letting the "less then neat" house go!
    Enjoy the day

  3. This time I have without the kids has made me think of all the things we need to do to make this a fun summer! Thanks for all the tips and maybe just one cookie if they tick me off, ok!

  4. I so have to take your advice. I keep telling myself this week is our "vacation" week and next week we will start a routine. I'm just hoping at the end of August I am still now saying the same thing! Love the pic!

  5. I've had to have this same realization about my house.
Oh, how I miss S&I. Brad went to Law School in Hyde Park. Ah, memories!

  6. Smart lady! So tempting to skip the dailies and catch up at night, but it NEVER WORKS!

  7. You are so wise! I am celebrating with you the joys of summer as you have children clammering through the house. I am also muddling through the bittersweet memories of those summers. Just once, escape to the world of mudpies and make-believe for the whole day. Forget the house and chores and being a mommy. The lists will always be there as will the house. The childen will not always be one cluttered room away. Enjoy every minute!
